Greeting Card virus infects computers in the city

A "greeting card" virus is preying computers across the city.

It appears as a message in the inboxes of email users claiming to be an online greeting card posted by a friend or a relative.

Once the user clicks the link to witness the card, he or she is directed to a booby-trapped web page which infects the hard disc of the computer with (malicious software)..

Reports say more than 40 per cent of computers in cyber cafés in the city have suffered infections from the greeting card virus.

"The link downloads a Trojan that can destroy system files," said T. Madhusudhan Rao, who owns Sri Sai Net world in Kukatpally. Cafe owners have complained that Cyber Crime wing did not issue an alert on the virus though FBI and other agencies did. "We have no mechanism to issue such alerts," said SP of the Cyber Crime Wing.
