Malaysian restaurant chain Awana has set up its first multi-cuisine centre in India at Hyderabad

and plans to locate about eight more of them within three years including two in Mumbai and Delhi shortly.

Awana means ‘in the clouds,’ is a new modern Malaysian restaurant chain with facilities in London and Dubai and is setting up more center's in Beijing and Tokyo.

The Managing Director of Awana, Mr. Eddie Lim, said: “Awana’s journey to promote authentic Malaysian cuisine in India starts from the City of Pearls, Hyderabad.

Awana at Hyderabad follows the atmosphere Awana Beijing and Awana London have created, wherein guests get treated to new levels of hospitality and authentic cuisine.” Addressing a press conference here, Mr Lim said Awana is part of the 70-plus restaurant chain which continues to expand globally providing authentic cuisine.

As a part of its expansion, Mr Lim said it planned to establish eight more such restaurants in India by 2010. However, work on the Delhi and Mumbai restaurants is likely to begin shortly.

“Typically, Awana restaurants are owned and managed by the company. However, if need be, we may even consider the possibility of offering some of them through the franchisee route,” Mr Lim said.

Malaysian food is rooted in its multi-ethnic population of Malay, Indian, Eurasia, Chinese, Nynya and the indigenous people of Borneo.

Movie line - Ghandhi Giri wit entertainment.
THE MOVIE IS CARRYING HIT TALK.

First half of the film is excellent and is totally entertaining. The second half is good, and has less entertainment towards climax as emotions had to catch up. The plus points of the film are Chiranjeevi's all-round performance, PRABUDEVS handling of emotional scenes, nice storyline, music and comedy. In emotional films, we find less entertainment. In entertaining films, we find less emotion. Here is one film that is blended with both emotion and entertainment in a wonderful way. And this film has something to offer to every cross-section of audiences. 'Shankardada MBBS' is a universal film that would appeal to both classes and masses. With Telugu film industry being in crisis at present, Shankar Dada ZINDABAD would surely bring smiles to the buyers, film industry and most importantly to the audiences. This film has got great repeat value. It is a must watch film!!

There was a dialogue which needs to be mentioned here. The dialogue is " Ee area ani nannu aduguthavuraa, ee andhra lo anni areas naavee raa" This dialogue came our really well.

The introduction of Chiranjeevi is terrific in SDZ as the the scene involves little bit introduction by Srikanth about CHIRU. Fans will go ga ga about the dialogue. One of the gunda asks Chiranjeevi and Srikanth about there identity and Srikanth say's " Anna CHIRUTHA kee AYYA, Fikar Cheyyaku Bhayya" in Telangana dialect and this dialogue will a surprise to all fans as every will think these kind of dialogues in Chirutha on contrary, we have seen scenes about Chirutha in his dad's movie.

There is another dialogue in the movie, that was told by Shiyagi Shinde, that " eedi vaalakam chustunte raajakeyalloki vachettu vunnadu. "

ZINDABAD ZINDABAD SHANKAR DADA ZINDABAD.

Chiranjeevi Shankardada Zindabad Review

Story: In order to meet and impress radio jockey, Jahnavi(Karishma kotak), Shankar Prasad alias Shankardada(Chiranjeevi) dons the guise of a Gandhian Professor, wins a contest, appears on the radio, has a date with Jahnavi, gets to meet Jahnavi's family, consisting of six elderly gentlemen who live at a palatial house called '2nd Innings', and wins a place in her heart. While Shankardada, Jahnavi, and the residents go on a trip to Goa, '2nd Innings' is taken over by builder Raja Lingam(sayaji shinde) , who intends to give this away as a dowry gift for his daughter(Sada), when she gets married to Suresh(Pawan Kalyan). An enraged Shankardada is all set to confront Raja Lingam and seize the house back, but decides to do it the Gandhian way-Gandhigiri.How he influence the lives of many other people with the gandhigiri and wins the love of Jahnavi is the rest of the story.

Highlights:
Concept(Rajkumar Hirani) of the film is the very highlight.Setting things right with gandhigiri with evoking the human side of inhuman people is excellent.

The concept of the film is of top "class" and is very complex to make it as a movie appealing to all classes(especially in Telugu). Some one with a Mega image can only take it to the masses.Chiranjeevi is successful in doing so with this film. It's a different film for Chiranjeevi too.His performance is of top class.

Prabhu deva did his best to present the film with the exact flavour. Most of the scenes, dialogues are true replica of the original Lage Raho Munnabhai..he is successful in inserting as many as comic elements whenever possible.Though he didn't choreograph the songs...one can see his touch in the songs too.

Music (Devisri Prasad) is good. 3 Songs are very good on screen with decent choreography and colourful sets.
Paruchuri brothers dialogues are ok(mostly translations).climax scene dialogues are good.
First half is good with comedy(college scene is hilarious) and good songs.second half is ok.
Climax is good with neat dialogues and the presence of Pawan Kalyan.

Side lights:
Heroine is bad.she is not good at either looks or performance.she is not even elegible for a 5minutes of item song in a Chiranjeevi movie.
Chiranjeevi looks stout.
Audience who have seen Lage Raho Munnabhai aren't fully satisfied with this movie.

Etc.., Etc..,
Raviteja,Allu Arjun,Nagababu appears in Jagadeka veeruniki song.
Brahmanandam,Gundu Hanumantha rao done the regular roles of astrologers as guru& sishya.MS Narayana,Sunil appears for a while and all of them did their jobs well.

Public Talk: worth watching
Industry talk: It's a different film for Chiranjeevi with no regular heavy dialogues, fights and less entertaining compared to Shankardada MBBS..but it won't disappoint anybody who step into the theatre. It will work at the Box Office with the strength of Chiranjeevi, and heavy promotion of the producers(Gemini TV).This biggest ever release will grab the max.openings but may not sustain in the long run.

Michael Jackson seeks Prince's help to boost career

Michael Jackson is being advised on how to save his career by former chart rival Prince. The eccentric star has reportedly turned to Prince, who he battled for pop supremacy in the 80s, for help with his comeback.

The Purple Rain singer is said to have told Michael to play a series of acoustic shows in Las Vegas to prove to the world that he is still an amazing talent. A source told the New York Post newspaper, "Prince has been suggesting that Michael should play a sequence of unplugged concerts in Las Vegas. No gimmicks, costume changes, smoke or mirrors, just his voice."

It seems Prince has had a change of heart towards his one-time rival. Earlier this year, the diminutive star snubbed Michael's offer of a joint tour to help him re-launch himself on the world stage. Prince was said to be concerned that the hype surrounding Michael's comeback would overshadow the concerts, and he wasn't prepared to be the Beat It singer's support act.

Mythology - Birth of the holy Ganga

The Ganga, regarded by many Indians to be one of the most holy rivers in India, has its roots in the rich fabric of Indian legend. With so many stories about its birth, it would be difficult to put them all down. Here are a few.

Considered as one of the two daughters of Meru (the Himalayas), the other being Uma, consort of Shiva, the river is said to have originated when Brahma performed the task of washing the feet of Vamana, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. But then, there are numerous other legends all pertaining to the origin of the holy river.

For instance, it is said that it was Bhagiratha who brought the river down to the earth in an act of penance, in order to purify the ashes of his forefathers who had been cursed by Kapila Muni.

According to mythology, the earth was unable to bear the force of the celestial river. Thus, the Gods requested Lord Shiva to support the river upon his long, matted hair and help to calm its tremendous force. Therefore, the Ganga has always been seen as one of Shiva's consorts, as in numerous depictions, he is shown with the river flowing with the support of his matted hair.

Yet another legend that exists pertaining to the origin of the river is that Ganga appeared on earth in a human form. She married an ancestor of the Pandavas, King Shantanu. She bore him seven children and it is said that she threw each child back into the river. Why she did so is lost in the mists of myth. But the eighth child, Bheeshma, was spared due to the King's intervention.

The Ganga is also known as the Jahnavi. This is because, according to legend, the river interrupted the meditative penance of a sage called Jahnu. In his fury, he proceeded to drink the entire river. He relented later, however, and permitted her to flow out through his ear, hence the name Jahnavi.

Left handers are more creative than Right handers?

LEFT-HANDED STUDENTS WERE ONCE CONSIDERED UNIQUE DUE TO THE WAY THEY HELD THEIR PENS OR SPOONS. TODAY, THEY REGARD THEMSELVES UNIQUE AS THEY ARE ONE IN A MILLION AND SPORT A CREATIVE EDGE OVER RIGHT-HANDERS.

O h! You're a left-hander!" - this is the common reaction to any left-hander and there has always been curiosity over the different styles a left-hander adopts to write. One turns the paper 90 degrees and writes to the side and another writes with her hand over the top of the paper, bending her wrist, seemingly writing upside down, leaving others wondering how it is possible for someone to write that way.

Today, there are more left-handers in a class than there were before ."I've had people staring at my hand ever since I was a kid. First it felt good to get attention from your peers and the fact that they found you different. It's also funny when they try to copy you and write with their left hand, scrawling unrecognizable alphabets. I used to be the only left-hander in my class. Now there are more," says Akshay, a student.

It is a popular notion that left-handers tend to be more creative than their right handed counter parts. This is because they use the right side of their brain. When a person is Right Brain Dominant, they are thought of as dreamers, artists, and musicians of the world. They have their strength in different areas. They do have similar characteristics and they tend to hold similar occupations. It is not commonly known that the last three US Presidents, Ronald Reagan, George Bush and Bill Clinton, were all left-handed. Some of the people in history like Ramses II (Egyptian pharaoh), Alexander the Great, Charlemagne (Roman emperor), Julius Caesar (Roman general), Napoleon Bonaparte (French emperor) were also left handers. Our very own Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar and actress Jyothika are left-handers.

Is it possible that left-handers have a way of carving a niche for themselves in society? Brushing aside the non-availability of left-handed chairs or scissors that make everyday life a little more difficult, maybe life as a left-hander isn't so bad after all. Where else would one be "different" for simply writing with their other hand?

Online status Messages gets naughty

Don't be shocked to find a bizzare message like "While two may share two, and one of two is certainly one, one might be two" greeting you when you check your friend's online status message. Regular messages like "Not at my desk' or ‘Stepped out," are passe.

Youngsters have started customizing their own online status and each one is more creative or hilarious than the first. "Don't laugh at me, laugh at yourself", "And the show must go on", ‘Try again later', ‘Jillenu Oru Blue Billion', "You have no idea", "What would you do if I sang out of tune", etc are some to name a few.

While some of them are random one-liners, others have poems and songs defining their status. Says Usha, who is doing her BSc at St. Mary's College, "Several of my contacts have strange status messages. There is this girl who has put up ‘I think... therefore I'm single'. There are others who have songs like Diamonds are forever, Love me or hate me." Jasmine Pestonji, of Chermas, says that many people on her list have popular songs as their status.

The status messages sometimes reflect the state of mind of youngsters. 'you're driftwood floating underwater, breaking into pieces, pieces, pieves', 'Guys are like parking space, there arent good ones', 'I dont need your attitude, I have one of my own', are some that show attitude. 'Coughing away to glory' was one of the most hilarious health-related messages.

29 years old Srinivas Says. "A friend of mine was feeling depressed. His status showed 'Walking alone with my shadow'." Andrew, who's working as Graphic Designer in the Malaysia says that his friends keep changing the messages based on the songs they listen to.

Some messages are quite scandalising or rude, but they don't stop one from having a good laugh. SO, when you see a cool message on your friends list, compliment them for their creativity and put up your ideas for others to see.

Chinese whisper that world's hot drink is their cup of tea

Indians need four things to survive - food, clothing, shelter and tea. We are not allowed to include tea in food. It probably is not possible for an average Indian to see a day through without a cup of tea. For the overworked people today, tea and coffee are more important than food. So since when has tea been a favorite of people? When was it first discovered?

According to Chinese mythology, in 2737 BC Chinese Emperor Shen Nung was sitting under a tree while his servant boiled drinking water. A leaf from a wild tea tree dropped into the water and Shen Nung decided to try the brew. Finding the drink a pleasant and relaxing flavour, he ordered extensive planting of the crop.

Indian and Japanese legends both attribute tea's discovery to Bodhidharma, the devout Buddhist priest who founded Zen Buddhism. The Indian legend tells how in the fifth year of a seven-year sleepless contemplation of Buddha he began to feel drowsy. He immediately plucked a few leaves from a nearby bush and chewed them which dismissed his fatigue. The bush was a wild tea tree.

Tea was introduced to Japan in 805 AD as a medicine by Zen Buddhist missionaries because of its meditation enhancing properties. Even now, tea is used widely all over the world for its curative prop erties. Medicinally, tea has been most used as a stimulant or as an astringent lotion. An infusion of tea leaves was once to heal insect bites, for some digestive problems and to reduce sweating in fevers. In Tamil Nadu, tea leaves have been used homoeopathically for mania, paralysis, nervousness, neuralgia and sleeplessness In the 1500s, tea arrived in Portugal, as the Portuguese were the first to establish trade relations with China and from there, it spread to the rest of Europe. The British are known to savour tea and varieties of it.

India saw the popularity of tea a little late. In 1823 wild tea was discovered in Assam.

It was cultivated and with such good effect that in 1839 the first shipment of Indian tea was brought to London.

In the meantime, Sri Lanka, then Ceylon, which was dependent almost entirely upon its flourishing coffee trade, fell a victim to the dreaded coffee blight and in 10 years the coffee industry was entirely wiped out. The planters then turned to tea and in a few years their tea production was rivaling that of India. By the end of the century the export of tea from these two new sources was far greater than that of China. Today India and Sri Lanka exports millions of pounds of tea annually.

Assam tea (grown at sea level is known for its body, briskness, malty flavour, and strong, bright colour), Darjeeling tea (grown in the foothills of the Himalayas) and Nilgiri tea (intensely aromatic, fragrant and flavourful tea grown in the southern portion of the Western Ghats) are the most popular kinds of tea consumed worldwide.

The nature of the beverage and style of tea preparation were quite different from the way we experience tea today. Tea leaves were processed into compressed cakes form. The dried teacake, generally called brick tea, was ground in a stone mortar. Hot water was added to the powdered teacake and then consumed as a hot beverage From the earliest times tea was renowned for its properties as a healthy, refreshing drink.

It was only during the Chinese Tang Dynasty (618 AD to 906 AD) that tea became China's national drink and the word cha was used to describe tea. The modern term "tea" is derived from early Chinese dialect words such as Tchai, Cha and Tay used both to describe the beverage and the leaf.

BIZZ STREET IT recruitment cut to control ‘F'

Have you ever pondered why IT companies have a hard time recruiting coders and developers whose skills correspond to the requirements of a particular job? What triggers regular and swift departures of IT professionals from their companies? Blame it on the human resources executives of most IT firms who are tasked with recruiting. The majority of HR MBAs are not from a technology background but given the continuing demand for recruiters in India's technology sector, they get sucked into IT companies. Since their understanding of the technology business is minimal and coupled with the pressures of meeting hiring deadlines, most of them are thrown to the wolves, as it were, from day one without any inputs on industry trends.

Microsoft Office is what they fall back upon. The control "F" option, as we all know, seeks out words that are being searched for on a document. Young and generally untrained recruiters in IT companies keep two documents open on their desktop when they are shortlisting bio datas. One is the skill set inventory structured by the business manager and the other is the candidate's bio data. Thereafter, he or she proceeds to do a control "F" on the bio data with what he/she believes are the buzz words that appear on the skill sets document.

Since IT companies expect a combination of skills for almost all roles, the buzz words are multiple which complicates the novice recruiter's job. Since they are hazy about the bigger picture, young recruiters end up missing the woods for the trees. As a result, some good bio-datas don't get past the desktops of these recruiters whereas many candidates, who fake their bio datas by incorporating skills that they don't actually possess, pass muster. Owners of recruiting firms have often confided to me their sense of dismay with such disorganized recruiting practices but as the off shoring wave continues to deluge India, MBA schools offering HR specialization are focusing on quantity rather than quality. As corporate old timers maintain, an undergraduate degree from St Stephens or Presidency College in the sixties and seventies is probably far more credible than a MBA from any of India's business schools other than the top ten in today's context.

Talent drying up High services, industries like growth Information technology, financial real estate and organized retail are projecting a huge shortfall in terms of the talent pipeline in India but nobody seems to be doing anything concrete about it. Since the government has failed miserably in this regard, like most other areas, not much may be expected of our politicians who are teamed up across party lines to keep most of India uneducated for their narrow vote bank interests. To occupy this vacant space, one would have expected credible privately funded vocational institutes to have come up but what is happening is quite the contrary. Fly by night operators are setting up industry specific institutes of professional development and extracting unreasonable fees with the lure of "job guarantees" which remain only on paper.

Bengaluru debuts In keeping with its imploding infrastructure, traffic snarls, power outages and dry taps, Karnataka's parochial politicians have got their way by renaming India's Silicon Valley an outlandish Bengaluru. Likewise, the former princely state of Mysore is now Mysuru. But Kumaraswamy has no time to sanction a larger budget for the proposed Anti-Terrorist Squad despite the strong Bangalore links of the Glasgow bombers.

Greeting Card virus infects computers in the city

A "greeting card" virus is preying computers across the city.

It appears as a message in the inboxes of email users claiming to be an online greeting card posted by a friend or a relative.

Once the user clicks the link to witness the card, he or she is directed to a booby-trapped web page which infects the hard disc of the computer with (malicious software)..

Reports say more than 40 per cent of computers in cyber cafés in the city have suffered infections from the greeting card virus.

"The link downloads a Trojan that can destroy system files," said T. Madhusudhan Rao, who owns Sri Sai Net world in Kukatpally. Cafe owners have complained that Cyber Crime wing did not issue an alert on the virus though FBI and other agencies did. "We have no mechanism to issue such alerts," said SP of the Cyber Crime Wing.

Golden Ant found in NallaMala forest

Hyderabad: A new insect that has characteristics of both the ant and the spider has been discovered in the Nallamala forest by scientists.

Biodiversity researchers of the forest department are still not sure whether it is a new insect species or a sub-species of ants. For the time being, they have named it the golden backed woolly ant.

It has a black head, white spots on the stomach and hair on its golden coloured woolly back.

Head of the Biodiversity Research Centre of the Srisailam Project Tiger, K. Thulsi Rao said that the details of the insect had been sent to the Zoological Survey of India.

"We have contacted entomologists and ant specialists of the country too," he said. "There are no records of such a creature. If it cannot be classified as an ant or a spider, a new family has to be named."

It was while detailing the biodiversity of Nallamala of Eastern Ghats that the researchers came across this ant.

"It has stings like an ant but its other characteristics are not that of ants," said Mr Thulsi Rao. "Earlier too, we found several new insect species in Nallamala."

The researchers also found a cat snake that preys on lizards and a cat with a necklace-like black strip.

Lord Vishnu in the garb of Lord Shiva

The Simhachalam temple is the only Vaishnava temple in the country in which the deity appears in a form which resembles the Shivalinga.

The presiding deity of the temple is Varaha Lakshminarasimha, an incarnation of lord Vishnu and combines the iconographic features of Varaha (Pig) and Narasimha (Lion) and is covered with sandal paste.

Local legends say that the ugra form of Narasimha as he killed the demon Hiranyakashipu was so fierce that devotees are not able to look at it. Sandal paste is applied on the deity throughout the year to ‘cool him down'.

Only once in a year, on Akshaya Tritiya Day, is the sandal paste removed from the idol. Then devotees will get to see the real shape. It is sculpted in tribhanga posture and has two hands with the head of a lion on a human torso.

The Nijaroopa Darshan, or appearance in true form, continues for 12 hours and lakhs of people from various parts of the State gather at the temple to worship the deity. The Chandanotsavam falls in Vaisakha month (May) every year. Peeling off the old sandal paste from the idol and applying new paste takes around 18 hours. It is believed that the sanctum sanctorum would get hot during this time. Devotees get to see the true form of the deity during the inter regnum. Sandalwood specially brought from Vellipoottur in Tamil Nadu is used to prepare the paste which is applied three times a year, on Vaisakha Pournami, Jyestha Pournami and Ashadha Pournami.

About 120 kg of sandal paste is applied each time. "On Sravana Pournami, day the sandal covered idol is decorated with ornaments," said Mortha Seetaramacharyulu, the chief priest of the temple. "This rite is called Karala Chan dana Samarpana."

Noted historian Dr Kolluru Suryanayana believes that the deity was originally Shiva and the temple became Vaishnavite after the great saint Shri Ramanuja visited it in the 11th century. "According to the Agama Shastra, the pedestal of the presiding deity in any Vaishnava temple would be near the rear wall," he said. "But in Simhachalam the pedestal is exactly in the centre of the sanctum sanctorum.

CNG buses unveiled in Hyderabad city

For the first time in South India, Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has introduced environment-friendly CNG (compressed natural gas) buses on Monday.

The buses which run with CNG will cause less noise and air pollution when compared to diesel buses.

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy flagged off three CNG buses of the first batch. He congratulated the APSRTC managing director V. Dinesh Reddy and other officials for switching over to a clean transport system.

APSRTC has decided to introduce 95 more CNG run buses by the end of December 2007 in Vijayawada as Bhagyanagar Gas Limited expressed its willingness to set up CNG filing stations in RTC depots. Apart from the three buses flagged off today, another five buses will be operated in the Hyderabad region.

"The corporation is always ready for innovations for the satisfaction of lakhs of passengers. So, we will try to induct more CNG buses in a phased manner in the future," said Mr Dinesh Reddy after the inauguration of new buses.

Gandhiji's personal tragedy moved me

Akshaye Khanna Play Gandhi's Eldest Son Hiralal in Gandhi My Father

The promos of Gandhi My Father have been drawing a lot of attention lately. Feroz Abbas Khan said "Gandhi has always been compelling, complex and strangely contemporary subject. Sir Richard Attenborough introduced Mahatma, the great soul to the West and the world remains grateful to him.

I grew up understanding Gandhi through others till I discovered a deep wound he had carried in his heart. Somewhere in the shadows of this great man lived his son, roaming the streets of India like a beggar. He converted to Islam as a rebel, reconverted to Hinduism for a penance and finally drank himself to death."

He continues, "Mahatma Gandhi could transform the soul of a nation but could not save the soul of his own son. The unfolding of a personal tragedy against the racial hatred in South Africa and colonial humiliation in India moved me deeply.

Finally my search to know the human side of Gandhi took me to South Africa, to different parts of India, libraries, scholars and his immediate family members. I then decided to make a film about a principled father and an unfortunate son. To me, Gandhi becomes a greater human being as he struggled personally, socially and politically, but always put his principles and quest for human dignity above everything else".

Star hotels announce arrival in Hyderabad

Hyderabad is hot property right now. With the booming IT sector, the city is now also gearing up for the influx of millions of international travelers who will be commuting through the new Shamshabad International Airport. The hotel industry has chosen Hyderabad as the new hospitality hub. Major hotel groups are venturing into new projects in the city, including The Leela, Holiday Inn, ITC, Ista and Hyatt hotels.

"Hyderabad has great potential. The city has modernized itself very beautifully with international standards of infrastructure. It's the new medical and IT hub and it has more scope than Bangalore in terms of infrastructural growth," says Mithu Basu, head of corporate communications, The Leela Group of hotels. "The Leela Hyderabad in Banjara Hills will cater to the higher end business clientèle. We hope to open the 325-room hotel by 2010," she adds.

Another factor drawing the big hotels to the city is the new International Airport coming up at Shamshabad. The Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) plans to start a hotel corridor called Regal Broadway to cater to the estimated five million passengers who will be commuting through the international airport starting 2008. Says project director Piyush Kumar, "The project is at a very nascent stage right now and nothing is finalized as yet. According to our initial plans, it was to be a 150-acre plot in Shamshabad but now we have to relocate the entire project as commercial complexes are not allowed in that area."

The Lanco Hills project at Manikonda nearby will boast two big hotels - Grand Hyatt and Holiday Inn. Says S. Pochendar, CEO of Lanco Hills, "The Grand Hyatt will be a fivestar luxury hotel with 400 rooms, a banquet hall with five specialty restaurants and a convention centre which will accommodate over 3,000 people." Their Holiday Inn will be a business class hotel with 350 rooms and two restaurants. Both hotels will be completed in about three years. Ista is setting up a five-star hotel in another newly developing area in Gachibowli. According to Ista spokesperson, Pushpa Nair, the luxury business hotel will be opening in a couple of months. A part of AHHR Hospitality Private Limited, Ista hotel will also boast a spa for its clients.

A state-of-the-art spa and health club are also among the plans that Gayatri Hitec Hotels has for its new venture, the Park Hyatt coming up in Banjara Hills. Says vice chairperson Sandeep Reddy, "The Park Hyatt here will be a seven-star hotel with around 220-250 rooms and equipped with top of the line facilities. The hotel will be completed in mid 2009."

ITC has also set its sights on opening a new hotel in addition to the ITC Sheraton Grand Kakatiya hotel. While sources confirm that they are looking to start another hotel here, the plans are still being finalized.

With so many star hotels opening soon in the city, competition will be stiff but hoteliers welcome the challenge. Says S. Pochendar of Lanco Hills, "The city's economy is looking up and there is room for all of us here."

Carefull speeding hyderabadis, Speed radar guns are in town

With the transport and traffic departments acquiring 38 german made speed radar guns on Thursday, two wheelers speeding beyond 50 kmph and commercial transport vehicles at more than 65 kmph would be penalised.

Commercial transport vehicles comprise those with yellow boards including cars, trucks and buses. High speed Volvo buses also fall under this category. The Central Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 prescribes speed limits for various categories of vehicles applicable across all the states in the country. The Act restricts the speed limit of fire tenders at 55 kmph.

Real estate boom on Hyderabad outskirts

When it comes to investing in real estate, the craze is no longer confined to the posh Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills, but has now shifted to the city outskirts like Manikonda, Nanakramguda, Gopanpally, areas near the Hitech City including Kukatpally, Gachibowli, and Madhapur. Thanks to the IT boom, these areas are all set to oust the ‘Old City' (read Panjagutta or Banjara Hills) according to builders.

Take for example the 108-acre Lanco Hills project in Manikonda. The project includes office complexes for IT professionals, 1,800 residential apartments, shopping mall of 2.5 million square feet and multiplex. Ninety five per cent booking has already been made for the residential complex, which will be completed within 27 months. Priced between Rs 80 lakhs-2.5 crores, and going upto 26-34 floors, per square feet costs Rs 4,500, informs the vice president of Lanco Infratech Limited, A. Narasimhan and adds, "We will shortly begin another phase, for designer duplex flats, because all our four-bedroom duplex were sold out within a day."

Jaiveer Reddy, MD of Asoka Developers and Builders and the Vice President of the Builders' Forum, Hyderabad, says, "Many foreign firms, IT industries, businessmen and investors are willing to buy apartments in the developing areas near the Hi-tech cities and Manikonda, the current market rate of which varies from Rs 3,500-4,500 per square feet."

According to director of Jayabheri Properties Limited, Ram Mohan Rao, the demand for apartments in the outskirts of the city is due to the concentration of the software companies in these areas. Therefore, it becomes convenient for IT people to get an apartment near their offices.

"The availability of unlimited square feet of built up area encourages investment by builders here. Also, unlike in Banjara Hills, where HUDA's permissible height of buildings is only around 10/12 metres, permission for skyscrapers is easy to get in these developing areas if they don't come under air-funnel route," says MD of Indu Projects Limited, Syam Prasad Reddy.

Seventy per cent bookings have already been completed for Jayabheri's Orange County project at Nanakramguda. Priced between Rs 1-2 crores, the 14 storey structure will be completed within two-and-a half years. Jayabheri's independent houses at Gopanpally are already sold out, informs Mr Rao.

Indu Fortune Fields' 65-acre Integrated Township at Kukatpally near the hi-tech city includes 640 luxury apartments costing around Rs 80 lakhs, out of which 440 have been booked so far and all 376 villas have been sold at Rs 1 crore each. Their re-sale value is estimated at Rs 1.8 crores now. Buyers comprise 20 per cent businessmen or industrialists while 70 per cent are from the IT sector, says Mr S.P. Reddy.

Buyers are also attracted by a host of facilities offered by these apartment builders, for which they won't mind paying that extra bit per square feet. Besides the usual clubhouses, parks, swimming pool, tennis courts, these attractions include sky garden and designer lobby as offered by Indu Fortune Fields, while Lanco Hill's special features include ACs, washing machine and driers, 100 per cent power generator backing, two car parking for each flat, small banquet hall and home theatre.

All the prominent builders seem confident that their projects are going to create worldclass townships and mini cities in Hyderabad soon.

Great Achievers - Nightingale of India, Sarojini Naidu

One of the most distinguished poets and renowned freedom fighters in the struggle for India's independence, Sarojini Naidu was born on February 13, 1879. Her parents were brilliantly erudite her father, scientist-philosopher, Aghornath Chattopadhyaya was the founder of Nizam College in Hyderabad, and her mother, Varada Sundari Devi, was a Bengali poetess.

Naidu who was the eldest among a family of eight siblings, inherited much of her parents exceptional brains. A superlative student, she was proficient in languages like Urdu, Telugu and Persian. Her brilliance was proved when she topped the matriculation examination at the Madras University. Her English poetry so impressed the Nizam of Hyderabad that he funded her studies abroad. Thus it was, that at the age of 16, Naidu travelled to England to study first at King's College, and later at Cambridge. Her writing flowered even more now, and her collections like The Golden Threshold (1905), The Bird Of Time (1912) attracted a huge readership of both Indian and English origin and earned her the name ‘The Nightingale of India'.

When she was 19, Naidu met and married Dr. Govindarajulu Naidu, a step that was revolutionary at a time when inter-caste marriages were frowned upon. In 1905, Naidu joined the Indian National Movement in the wake of the Partition of Bengal. She set about awakening the women of India, bringing to them a sense of their own worth. From 1915 to 1918, she lectured all over India on the welfare of youth, dignity of labour, women's emancipation and nationalism. In 1925, she was elected the President of the Congress, the first Indian woman to hold the post.

She joined the Non-Cooperation and the Civil Disobedience movements and spent long months in jail.

After India attained Independence in 1947, Sarojini Naidu went on to become the Governor of Uttar Pradesh. The Nightingale of India, as she was so popularly called, died in office on March 2, 1949.

Satya said that each actor has different requirements and the fitness formula for each varies. As for the fitness trends in Bollywood these days, he says, "Lean and chiselled look is in."

Stressing on the importance of regular exercise, Satya said, "It is important to burn the extra calories by increasing the metabolism rate to keep the body fit. For that, exercise and a healthy diet hold the key."

Satya's prescription for a healthy and fit body is a basic exercise regime that includes short work-out sessions of 30 minutes duration on at least four days a week. His dietary prescription comprises small, light meals that should be taken 7-8 times a day. Sugar and white bread should be avoided.

For people who are lazy and hate to exercise, Satya's message is "Seeing your body become lean and muscular is possibly the best incentive to exercise. Begin with short, light sessions that would not result in burn-out."

Lanco plans world's tallest apartment

Hyderabad-based Lanco Group is all set to launch Lanco Hills, its maiden realty venture, at Manikonda in Hyderabad, aggregating to approximately 30 million sq ft at an estimated cost of Rs 5,500 crores.

"It will have a total of 12 towers and we are building the world's tallest residential tower with more than 100 floors here," said Mr A. Narasimhan, vice-president, Lanco Infratech Ltd. "The complex would be able to accommodate more than 75,000 IT professionals," he added.

But good things rarely come cheap. To get an apartment in the Signature Tower, customers have to shell out a minimum of Rs 4.5 crores to Rs 5 crores.

"Other residential complexes will come at a price ranging between Rs 80 lakhs and Rs 2 crores," said Mr G. Venkatesh Babu, managing director, Lanco Infratech Ltd.

"But if you compare the prices with those in Mumbai, then it‘s really cheap since land prices are far lower in Hyderabad," he added.

The project is expected to be completed in the next two years. "Lanco Hills will constitute one of the largest malls in the country with 2.5 million sq ft of area with 16-screen multiplexes, go-carting and ice skating rink," said Mr Babu.

"A premium luxury hotel of 400 rooms and a deluxe business hotel of 350 rooms will also be included," he said.

iPhone mania hits Youngsters

Hyderabadi gadget freaks are going ga ga over the sleek Apple iPhone that has already taken the US market by storm. Though this phone is currently available only in the US, local youngsters are hell bent on owning this revolutionary product as soon as possible and by all means.

The handset alone costs $499 or approximately Rs 20,459 for 4GB and $599 or approximately Rs 24,559 for 8GB. But for those of you who don't know, this phone is sold with a twoyear contract in the US, which proves to be quite expensive in the long run because you have to shell out a minimum of $1975 or approximately Rs 80,975 for its services in the US! Asghar Ali Khan, an engineering student presently owns an Apple Mac Notebook but will be the proud recipient of the iPhone in 10 to 15 days. "I ordered the Apple iPhone two months back, and my dad's friend at AT&T stores in the US is getting it for me.

The only disadvantage is that Edge (enhanced version of GPRS) is pre-installed in the iPhone, so it's expensive and it works only with Hutch in India. It has unique features like multi touch screen, gravitational sensor and finger touch sensor, which is a new interface. The most amazing part about this phone is that softwares like Final cut pro can run on it."

Apple authorised dealer in Hyderabad, Asad Ansari, commercial officer, Access to Future, says, "All the features in Apple iPhones will work in India for sure. In fact, Apple is planning to set up an exclusive outlet in Hyderabad after twoand-a-half months."

However, this has not deterred youngsters from going bonkers over this new gizmo. "iPhones are definitely a hot buy. It's more of a status symbol and is definitely more stylish than the other phones that are available in the market. At present, I am waiting for it to be tested and launched in India", says Sirish Allu, Tollywood director Kalyan Reddy, a second year student of Bhavan's college is totally bowled over by this new gizmo. "I have asked my cousin in the US to buy the iphone for me and bring it along when he comes here in January. It has all the features that one could ever wish for. Also, it is compatible and has a scroll locking system."

Rohit Dubey, a second year engineering student in Vasavi College asked his family residing in the US to buy this phone for him when they come down to India in December. "This gad gadget is still not available here or I would have bought it right away. It has unique features and has various applications that are useful for entertainment. I love clicking snaps and the automatic setting that this phone has is appealing."

If you plan to buy your iphone from the Us, remember to activate your instrument with the social security number when you are buying there and then rest assured that it'll work anywhere in India!
